MEGABABELAND by Isabel Koenig Woodroffe
It all began when I realised I was better-off making it myself if I wanted furniture to suit my purposes and style exactly. I enjoy the feeling of knowing every measurement, material, finish and fixture. And learning the history, culture and anthropology of the behaviour that coincides with or is supported by the piece of furniture is a fun part of the process. What does it mean to feast, what does it mean to lounge, I ask myself. The thing I make inevitably carries that human knowledge. I become more conscious when I am around it. It is a pleasure to live alongside something I created.
